Design and implementation of adaptive digital signal processing algorithms for broadband applications') and IWT project AUT/970517: MUSETTE ('Multimicrophone Signal Enhancement Techniques for handsfree telephony and voice controlled systems'). The scientific responsibility is assumed by its authors. Abstract For high quality acoustic echo cancellation long echoes have to be suppressed. Classical LMS–based adaptive filters are not attractive as they are suboptimal from a computational point of view. Multirate adaptive filters such as the partitioned block frequency–domain adaptive filter (PBFDAF) are good alternatives and are widely used in commercial echo cancellers nowadays. In this paper the PBFDRAP is analyzed, which combines frequency–domain adaptive filtering with so– called " row action projection ". Fast versions of the algorithm will be derived and it will be shown that the PBFDRAP outperforms the PBFDAF in a realistic echo cancellation setup.

Partitioned residual echo power estimation for frequency-domain acoustic echo cancellation and postfiltering
Residual echo arises in hands–free telephony equipment due to insufficient echo canceler convergence, but can be suppressed using a postfilter. The residual echo power spectral density is the most crucial control parameter for both frequency–domain acoustic echo cancellation and combined residual echo and noise postfiltering. In this contribution we present and compare residual echo power spect...
متن کاملA soft-partitioned frequency-domain adaptive filter for acoustic echo cancellation
We present a sop-partitioned frequency-domain adaptive filter (SPFDAF) and compare it in the context of other LMS type acoustic echo cancelers. The SPFDAF uses a non-rectangular window to partition the model taps (impulse response) of an echo canceler. Our soji window can be approximated very efficiently in the DF? domain and still attenuates aliasing components of the DFT by 40 dB. This techni...
متن کاملSignificance-aware filtering for nonlinear acoustic echo cancellation
This article summarizes and extends the recently proposed concept of Significance-Aware (SA) filtering for nonlinear acoustic echo cancellation. The core idea of SA filtering is to decompose the estimation of the nonlinear echo path into beneficially interacting subsystems, each of which can be adapted with high computational efficiency. The previously proposed SA Hammerstein Group Models (SA-H...
متن کاملA Frequency Domain Nonlinearity for Stereo Echo Cancellation
This letter proposes a novel nonlinear distortion for the unique identification of receiving room impulses in stereo acoustic echo cancellation when applying the frequency-domain adaptive filtering technique. This nonlinear distortion is effective in reducing the coherence between the two incoming audio channels and its influence on audio quality is inaudible. key words: acoustic echo cancellat...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Acoustic Echo Cancellation Techniques
Mainly, the adaptive filters are implemented in time domain which works efficiently in most of the applications. But in many applications the impulse response becomes too large, which increases the complexity of the adaptive filter beyond a level where it can no longer be implemented efficiently in time domain. An example of where this can happen would be acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) applic...
